30.
Who is organizing?
31. Hackmeeting is a yearly meeting of a community that communicates
32. through
33. a mailing list. There
34. is no distinction between organizers and users. Everyone can subscribe
35. and partecipate in the organization by visiting the site
36. it.hackmeeting.org and entering the community.

37.

38.

39.
What is an hacker?
40. Hackers are curious people, always eager to discover how things are
41. done. Whether it is technology or not, hackers reclaim freedom to
42. experiment, disassemble and reassemble things or concepts, to
43. understand how are they made, to improve them, and then to share how
44. to do it again. Hackers solve problems and build things, believing in
45. freedom and sharing. They do not like closed systems. Hackers’ forma
46. mentis is not restricted to the field of software hacking: there are
47. people that keep the hacker mentality in every existing field, driven
48. by their creative impulse.

49.

50.

51.
Who holds the talks?
52. Whoever wants to. If someone wants to propose a talk, they just has to
53. propose it on the mailing list. If the proposal is well received, it
54. gets on calendar. If there are some problems, the community will be
55. happy to help improve the proposal.

56.

57.

58.
What’s in there, besides talks?
59. There is a LAN space, as to say an area dedicated to the net: everyone
60. can plug their laptop, forming a network with the other participants. In
61. general, this is the right place to meet other attendees, to ask for
62. help in installing Linux, to solve a doubt, or just to have a chat.
63. Hackmeeting is an open-air festival, a meeting, an hacking party, a
64. moment of consideration, an occasion to learn something together, an act
65. of rebellion, an exhange of ideas, experiences, dreams, utopias.

66.

67.

68.
How much does it cost?
69. Traditionally, entrance in Hackmeeting is totally free: always keep in
70. mind that organizing the event has a cost. Expenses are sustained
71. through voluntary contributions, selling shirts and other gadgets and
72. sometimes through the earnings of the bar.
73. Please donate whatever you can, every small donation counts.

74.

75.

76.
Eating
77. There is a self-organized kitchen, and we invite everyone to
78. participate. As for every year, alimentary restrictions of every type
79. will be respected, so there will be vegetarian and vegan meals.
80. We also try to respect any other necessity (gluten-free meals and so
81. on), if this is your case please write it in
82. the mailing list.

83.

84.

85.
What shall I bring?
86. If you want to bring a computer, take a power
87. strip too. Do not forget networking hardware (like Ethernet cables,
88. switches, WiFi access points). Remember to bring the hardware that
89. you will want to hack in company. We will try to get some internet
90. connection for everybody to share, but we can’t really guarantee anything.
91. If you think that you need it, bring a 3G/4G stick with you
92. and the necessary to share it with friends! Try to be as independent
93. as possible regarding your hardware.

94.

95.

96.
May I arrive before Thursday?
97. Do you want to arrive sooner? Wonderful! In the preceding days there is
98. always much to do (arrange network infrastructure, arrange seminar halls and
99. many other things) so any helping hand is well accepted.
100. Maybe just let us know in advance by sending a message in the list!

101.

102.

103.
May I take photos, make videos, post, tag, share, upload?
104. We think that the freedom to choose the dimensions of one’s own private
105. sphere and public profile must be guaranteed to every participant: in
106. this spirit, photos and/or videos are admitted only if explicitly
107. authorized by every person that appears in the media. Nobody should be
108. photographed without knowing.
109. Many people at Hackmeeting really care about their privacy, please ask
110. before taking a picture.

111.

112.

113.
How are people expected to behave?
114. Hackmeeting is a self-managed space, a temporary independent space and
115. whoever passes through is expected to behave according to the principles
116. of antisexism, antiracism and antifascism. If you are victim or witness
117. of an act of oppression, aggression, brute force, port scan, ping flood
118. and other non-consensual DOS and you do not know how to react, always
119. count on the community’s support and do not hesitate to attract
120. attention and ask for help.
